Online baccarat game: choosing a casino – what to look for?

Nowadays there are a whole bunch of licensed online casinos. So how to choose the best one to play at?

The answer to this question is not simple. There’s no casino that we can clearly assess as the best. To start with it’s certainly worth to look at player reviews and casino reviews on various websites.

Another important issue is bonuses. You can earn extra cash with them, especially with your first deposit.

Baccarat game rules

How to play Baccarat? It’s simple! The aim of the game is to get the number of points as close as possible to 9. In baccarat you can bet on your win, the dealer’s win or a tie.

Usually the player’s winnings are paid at a ratio of 1 to 1 and the dealer’s winnings are paid at a ratio of 19 to 20, which means that the casino takes a 5% commission here. A tie is paid at a ratio of 8 to 1 or in some casinos at a ratio of 9 to 1.

At the beginning of the game, the dealer (known as the banker) deals himself and the player two cards face down. The cards are scored as follows:

From 2 to 9 – scored as the value of the card, e.g. 3 is 3 points
Ten, Jack, Queen, King – 0 points
Ace – one point
Jokers are not used, the game is played with 52-card decks.

How is Baccarat played?

The score is calculated as the single digit of the sum of two card values. For example, an 8 and a 7 together equals 15 points, so the score is five. If you score 8 or 9 (e.g. a seven and an ace is eight, a nine and a king is nine), you have the highest hand in baccarat, called Natural.

If, after two cards have been dealt, either the dealer or the player reaches a Natural hand, the game ends without drawing (see next paragraph), and the hands are compared: if, for example, the player scores 9 points and the dealer scores 8 points, the player’s hand wins. A tie can also occur.

The colors of the cards do not matter. Up to 8 decks of cards are used, and up to 14 players can participate in the game (but they do not compete against each other – each compares his hand with the dealer’s).

Baccarat is not always two cards, it can also be three. When the value of a player’s hand is less than or equal to 5, another card is drawn for the player.

When a card is dealt to a player, the dealer may also draw. As in blackjack, the dealer follows a strict algorithm that determines whether or not the banker should hit. In baccarat, this algorithm looks like this:

If there is no card drawn for a player, the banker follows the same algorithm as a player: draw when he has five points or less and no draw when he has six or seven points.

Baccarat casino’s edge

In punto banco baccarat the casino advantage is as follows. Betting on:

Player’s win: 1.24%,
dealer’s winnings: 1.06% (despite the commission charged),
on a tie (with an 8:1 payout): 14.4%,
on a draw (with a 9:1 payout): 4.85%.

Note that baccarat – depending on the bet you place – has both some of the lowest casino advantages of all table games and some of the highest.

If you avoid betting on a draw, baccarat turns out to be a very attractive casino game in which you have better odds than in roulette, and comparable odds to playing blackjack when you don’t use special strategies.

While skill is important in blackjack and is acquired over time, baccarat allows you to play with a low casino edge without spending a particularly large amount of time learning strategy.

Baccarat Game Outcome

Baccarat is a fast-paced gambling game, with each game – particularly in online mode, where the computer draws the cards – taking only a few seconds or so. After the game is over, the dealer announces the winner.

This happens automatically, so you don’t have to worry about counting the score here, especially if you’re playing over the Internet where it’s hard for the computer to make a mistake.

If both the player and the banker have the same point value at the end of the game, the dealer declares égalité – bets on a tie win. All bets on the tie are paid out at odds of 8 to 1 or 9 to 1, and all bets on the player or banker winning remain in place and active until the next game (the player may or may not withdraw these bets depending on casino rules).

Baccarat game strategies

Baccarat is a game where the casino has a small percentage advantage over the player. There is no magic pill here that will ensure you win in the long run.

So look with a pinch of salt at websites that offer foolproof baccarat game systems. They are simply scams that want to scam money from naive players.

Before playing for real money, it’s a good idea to play baccarat in the demo mode, that is for play money. This is possible at many online casinos, often without even registering and logging in.

Budgeting in baccarat

In baccarat, our strategies will mainly rely on proper budgeting.

For example, we can use the system of progression, which means betting on the same bet over and over again, but with an increasing amount of money.

In the short term this strategy, just like in roulette, can be very profitable indeed, but in the long term it condemns us to failure, because the unfortunate series will eventually come.
